A late-night party in North Carolina turned tragic after gunfire erupted, leaving two people dead and several others critically injured. Police say the shooting occurred early Sunday morning at a private residence where dozens had gathered for a weekend celebration.
Authorities responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired around midnight. When officers arrived, they found several victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while others were rushed to nearby hospitals in critical condition.
Police Search for Suspect and Motive
Investigators believe the shooting may have started after a dispute among attendees, though the exact motive remains unclear. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and reviewing video footage from nearby homes and vehicles to identify potential suspects.
“We’re asking anyone who was at the party or has information to come forward,” said Police Chief Marcus Hill. “We need the community’s help to bring justice to the victims and their families.”
Authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made as of Sunday afternoon. Crime scene technicians spent several hours collecting shell casings and other evidence from the property, which has since been cordoned off.
Victims Identified, Families Grieve
Officials have not yet released the names of the deceased pending family notification, but neighbors say many of the victims were young adults. The tragedy has left the small community in mourning, with residents placing candles and flowers near the scene.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said neighbor Carla Jenkins. “This was supposed to be a fun night for friends. Now families are grieving because of senseless violence.”
Community Demands Action Against Gun Violence
Local leaders and residents are calling for stronger efforts to curb gun violence, which has plagued several North Carolina communities in recent months. City officials are urging residents to report illegal weapons and suspicious gatherings before they escalate into violence.
“This tragedy highlights the urgent need for community involvement and conflict resolution,” said Mayor Angela Roberts. “We can’t afford to lose more lives.”
Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information to contact local authorities as the search for the shooter intensifies.
