A former Christian camp counselor has been arrested after allegedly making violent threats against a popular faith-based youth camp that had recently fired him. The incident has shocked the camp’s staff, community members, and parents, prompting increased security and a police investigation.

Alleged Threats Follow Dismissal

The suspect, a 29-year-old man whose name has not been released pending formal charges, had worked at the Christian summer camp for two seasons. According to camp officials, he was let go earlier this month due to “behavioral concerns and failure to follow camp policies.”

Shortly after his termination, the former counselor reportedly began sending threatening messages to former coworkers and posting alarming statements on social media. Authorities say he made direct references to returning to the camp and “making them pay,” causing widespread fear among current staff.

Arrest and Police Response

Local police were alerted after several staff members reported the threats, which included explicit language and references to potential violence. Law enforcement quickly identified the former counselor and arrested him at his residence without incident.

According to the sheriff’s department, the suspect was in possession of multiple firearms and a written note outlining what appeared to be a planned act of retaliation. Investigators are now working to determine whether the plan was imminent or still in early stages of development.

“He had the means and the intent,” said the sheriff. “This arrest may have prevented a tragedy.”

Camp Increases Security Measures

The Christian camp, which hosts hundreds of children each summer, has increased on-site security and temporarily suspended its next session to ensure the safety of all participants. Staff are receiving counseling and additional training on how to respond to future threats.

“We are deeply grateful to law enforcement for acting swiftly,” the camp director said in a statement. “Our priority is always the safety and spiritual well-being of our campers and staff.”

Community Left Shaken

Parents and community members expressed both relief and concern following the arrest. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen at a place where our kids are supposed to feel safe,” said one parent.

The former counselor remains in custody as authorities prepare formal charges, including making terroristic threats and unlawful possession of firearms. A mental health evaluation has also been ordered.
