Little Havana hit-and-run, Kathryn Carlin Kipnis, Ivana Gomez arrest, Miami pedestrian fatality, DUI manslaughter, Southwest 22nd Avenue accident early Friday morning, a hit-and-run accident claimed the life of Kathryn Carlin Kipnis, 41 years old and from the Little Havana neighborhood. Police reported the fatal hit-and-run incident took place near Southwest 22nd Avenue and 8th Street at around 1:10 AM and that Kipnis was hit by 32-year-old Ivana Gomez driving a BMW; she immediately fled without stopping or reporting the incident to authorities.
Before the collision occurred, Gomez had been observed driving at an uncontrollable high rate of speed when she passed by an activated police officer who noticed signs of intoxication on Gomez’s breath, bloodshot watery eyes and strong alcohol smell on her breath. Soon thereafter she was apprehended shortly thereafter for DUI as well as leaving the scene of a fatal accident charges.

Kipnis was declared dead at the scene. Her family and friends are grieving her loss while community members come to terms with this tragic event, raising issues about impaired driving and pedestrian safety in her area.
