A shocking scene unfolded in downtown Provo, Utah, on Sunday evening when a vehicle plowed into a local business, sparking a massive fire that led to a violent explosion. The blast sent debris flying into the sky and shook buildings several blocks away, leaving the community in disbelief.
Crash Sparks Massive Fire
According to police reports, a pickup truck traveling at high speed veered off the road and crashed through the front of the Provo Print & Supply shop around 6:30 p.m. Witnesses say the crash immediately triggered a loud bang, followed by flames that rapidly spread through the building.
“I heard tires screech, then a huge boom, and within seconds the whole place was on fire,” said Jake Miller, who lives across the street. “Flames shot out the windows, and smoke just poured into the sky.”
Explosion Rocks the Neighborhood
Minutes after the crash, the building exploded in a massive fireball that could be seen from miles away. Security footage from nearby businesses shows the fiery plume bursting into the air, raining fragments of wood, glass, and metal across the area.
Miraculously, no fatalities were reported. The driver, a 34-year-old man whose name has not yet been released, was pulled from the vehicle by bystanders and is currently hospitalized in critical condition. Two employees inside the building escaped with minor injuries.
Ongoing Investigation
Firefighters battled the blaze for over two hours before bringing it under control. Investigators are now working to determine the exact cause of the fire and what may have led the driver to crash into the building. Early reports suggest possible mechanical failure or medical emergency.
“We’re incredibly fortunate this didn’t result in more serious casualties,” said Fire Chief Kevin Lawson. “It’s a miracle people walked away from that explosion.”
Community in Shock
The incident has left many local residents shaken. The business, a family-owned printing shop that had operated in Provo for over 15 years, was completely destroyed. A small memorial of flowers and notes has begun to grow near the site.
City officials are assessing the structural damage to neighboring buildings and are urging residents to avoid the area as cleanup continues.
