This story addresses suicide. If you or anyone you know are contemplating ending their lives, please call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or 800-273-TALK (8255). Theresa DeLucia, 95 years old from Long Island in New York State and mother to four, died last month, having already documented her wishes in a will more than ten years earlier.

However, that 2007 document may have influenced her youngest son’s shooting spree that claimed three siblings and an aunt-niece in an apparent murder-suicide scenario. According to Zillow estimates, Joseph DeLucia stood to gain one-fourth of the value of his mother’s estate, along with one-quarter of its sale proceeds. According to them, Zillow estimates its property value to be almost $900,000.

DeLucia lived with his mother until her death, yet in her will, she instructed anyone living there at the time of her passing to move out immediately to enable its sale. She also appointed Frank, her eldest son, as enforcer. Joseph appears to have been fearful that he would become homeless, so he decided to kill off all his family members before fleeing into exile.
