Over the weekend, a young Texas Highway Patrol trooper died from injuries incurred while investigating a car crash. On Sunday afternoon, the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) released news of Trooper Kevin Alexis Ramirez Vasquez’s death from being “struck by a vehicle” while responding to an accident scene on Tuesday morning.
Trooper Ramirez Vasquez suffered severe injuries and was initially transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Later he was airlifted to Lubbock-area hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on Sept 28. The trooper, who was survived by both parents and three siblings, joined the TXDPS in 2023 and was stationed at Odessa. Additionally, he served in both U.S. military services before and during his time as a trooper.
Trooper Ramirez Vasquez had dedicated his life to public service, serving in both the United States Army and National Guard prior to joining our department,” according to a press release issued by our department. He is the 241st DPS officer to fall while performing their duty since 1823. TXDPS Director Steven McCraw expressed his sadness over the passing of one of their fellow soldiers. No words can make up for such an irreparable loss to our fraternity in uniform.
