Fast Guard

DUNCANNON, Pa. (WHTM) – The Susquenita School District will have armed security guards beginning this fall.

Administrators say the guards are a must to keep everyone safer.”Some recent attempts at school districts were stopped because they had armed security and were able to shut it down quickly,” Superintendent Kent Smith said.

Smith says the timing is right.

“Having an armed security person on campus is probably one of the best things we can do right now,” he said.

The district will have one armed guard during the day and one for after-school events.

INA of Harrisburg will provide the security.

“After Parkland, our business blew up, if you will, with requests to do school assessments and requests for proposals to put armed guards in schools,” INA president John Sancenito said.

Susquenita won’t be the first local school district to have armed guards. Other Midstate schools have school resource officers through partnerships with local police departments.

“This just provides us an added layer of security for our staff and students,” Smith said.
