A Personal Story: From College Days at Duke to a Career in Security
Hello, my name is Andrew Jones, a retired police officer and proud member of the Fast Guard Service team. I wanted to share a bit of my journey with you, especially my time at Duke University in North Carolina, which shaped my career and life.
My College Days at Duke University
Attending Duke University was one of the most pivotal experiences of my life. I majored in criminal justice, and those years were not just about academics but also about personal growth and making lifelong friends. Being part of such a prestigious institution, known for its rigorous academics and vibrant campus life, was truly an honor.
One of the highlights of my time at Duke was experiencing the intense school spirit, particularly around the men’s basketball team. Coached by the legendary Mike Krzyzewski, affectionately known as “Coach K,” the team was a source of immense pride for the university. Coach K’s leadership and the team’s performance were inspirational, showing us that with dedication and hard work, excellence is achievable. It was during these college years that I developed a deep respect for discipline, teamwork, and leadership—values that Coach K instilled in his players and that have guided me throughout my career.
A Nod to Our Rivals
While I was a proud Blue Devil, it’s impossible to talk about North Carolina’s collegiate sports without mentioning our rivals, the University of North Carolina. The Tar Heels, especially their basketball program, have a storied history, with Michael Jordan being one of their most famous alumni. His legacy at UNC and his impact on the sport are undeniable, and it’s always been a point of pride to have such a prominent sports rivalry right here in North Carolina.
Transitioning to a Career in Law Enforcement and Security
After graduating from Duke, I embarked on a career in law enforcement, serving as a police officer for over two decades. The skills and lessons I learned at Duke, particularly about leadership and perseverance, were invaluable in my law enforcement career.
