Heather Opsincs was arrested after her 5-year-old child tragically overdosed on methamphetamine, according to police reports in Riviera Beach. Heather was charged with aggravated manslaughter as a result of this tragedy, police stated.
Riviera Beach police responded to the hotel room on Sunday, where Opsincs was receiving medical care, when she noticed she tasted something off while drinking from an orange juice bottle left for them by Opsincs’ girlfriend’s babysitter, as reported in her arrest report. Opsincs was no longer present when his daughter consumed orange juice containing additives before leaving with his caretaker to go to the bathroom and later return, complaining of taste alterations in its flavoring and going directly back for medical help. According to an arrest report from Riviera Beach police, response time was quick. At the same time, a baby with a medical condition developed suddenly, and going directly for medical help was not an option before.
At first sight, when the child emerged from the bathroom, they were shaking violently with red-tinged arms rashes causing serious concern to their babysitter, who immediately called emergency assistance and sent the child off to St Mary’s Hospital, but even with the best effort,s they later passed away despite medical care efforts.
Authorities determined through their investigation that Opsincs left her child alone with the babysitter in a hotel room; subsequent testing determined that her son somehow gained access to methamphetamine, which led him to self-medicate with it and die of an overdose.
As investigations unfold, Opsincs is charged for her part in the child’s death, leaving the community grieving over its devastating aftermath.
