Two individuals in Indiana are being charged with the theft of bronze veteran markers from headstones at various veterans’ burial locations across Hoosier State. Terry Wood, 53, and Breanna Puentez, 25, of La Porte County, were taken into custody Friday following reports that at least 15 grave markers from six cemeteries in La Porte County last month had been stolen or damaged, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Both suspects have been charged with multiple felony theft and cemetery mischief charges.
On Sep. 9, the sheriff’s office made public their investigation into stolen grave markers, encouraging residents to visit the gravesites of deceased veterans and investigate further. On Sept. 10, their agency reported they received credible information identifying a possible suspect.
