Man Accused of Stabbing, Burning Victim, and Taking Selfies

Roiniel Perez, 31, from South Florida, is accused of stabbing 52-year-old Oscar Rene Hernandez Augustin 49 times before partially torching his body on November 24. Perez faces numerous charges related to this crime – second-degree murder with weapon use and grand theft are two he has been charged with, but he has pleaded not guilty to all.

Hernandez Augustin went missing on November 12, 2024, and two days later, his remains were discovered along a dirt road. Investigators revealed in court proceedings that Perez took bloody selfies after killing Hernandez Augustin, adding an alarming twist to this crime.

Perez was arrested on November 17 after leading police on a high-speed pursuit in his victim’s 2015 Toyota Corolla. When the chase came to an end, Perez crashed into another car before trying to hide beneath it. Authorities believe his arrest links him directly with this murder, and are continuing their investigation of its details.
