A Monroe County deputy is facing criminal charges after an earlier confrontation in Key West turned violent and led to his arrest.
Nick Joseph Galbo, 42, was taken into custody early Wednesday morning following an incident on Simonton Street around 1 a.m. according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Witnesses claim Galbo and another female were engaged in an argument when things quickly escalated, prompting an overheated argument to take an extreme turn and escalate further. Galbo then grabbed at his victim during this escalation, causing an off-duty couple nearby to intervene and attempt to de-escalate the situation.
Galbo did nothing to calm things down; she punched him before going even further by pulling out a knife and threatening their relationship, according to authorities.
At the time of his incident, Galbo appeared intoxicated. Key West Police quickly responded and arrested him without further incident, booking him into county jail with charges for both felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has yet to make an official announcement regarding Galbo’s status, such as whether she has been suspended from duty pending investigation results.

Galbo’s arrest has caused alarm within his community and residents are questioning his behavior as someone charged with upholding law. Prosecuters will review evidence to decide next steps for Galbo. Contact us for Temporary Security Guards Today!
