A Dallas Police Department employee has been terminated after allegedly falsifying her educational background on her job application. The individual, whose name has not been publicly released, was employed in an administrative role when it was discovered that she had claimed to hold a college degree that she never earned.
The incident came to light during a routine background check, part of the department’s efforts to ensure all employees meet the required qualifications. Investigators found discrepancies between the employee’s resume and her academic records. According to police sources, the woman had claimed to have obtained a degree in criminal justice from a well-known university. However, further examination revealed that she had never attended the institution nor earned the degree she listed on her resume.
Upon confirming the falsehood, the Dallas Police Department immediately took action, launching an internal investigation. “Integrity is paramount in law enforcement, and when an employee is found to have misrepresented their qualifications, it undermines the trust we work hard to build with the community,” said Chief Thomas Ruiz of the Dallas Police Department. “We take these matters very seriously, and this action was necessary to maintain the high standards of our department.”
The fired employee had been with the department for several years and was responsible for handling administrative duties related to records and data management. Despite the falsification of her degree, she had passed all previous performance reviews, and there had been no major complaints against her job performance before the discovery of the false information.
The firing has raised concerns about the department’s vetting process, especially when verifying employees’ educational backgrounds in sensitive roles. City officials have promised to review and strengthen hiring procedures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
While the employee has yet to comment publicly, sources close to her have indicated that she may seek legal counsel in response to her termination. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and honesty, especially within law enforcement agencies tasked with upholding the law.
