Police arrested a custodian from Miami-Dade school Van E. Blanton Elementary after allegations surfaced of him assaulting one of his coworkers and carrying a loaded handgun in his backpack, police stated Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning at 9:20 a.m., an incident took place at the school located at 10327 NW 11th Ave in the Pinewood neighborhood of Miami-Dade County. An arrest report by the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department states that this incident took place.
Police allege that Delvin James Sheffield, 46, from Northwest Miami-Dade followed both victims down an empty stairwell before pushing one down and pushing him against a wall and against other school employees.
Authorities reported that surveillance footage shows Sheffield seizing his victim by the shirt and shoulders and forcing him violently against a stairwell door.
Investigators reported to the victim, who told them he and Sheffield had an argument two weeks earlier but has had no further issues since.
M-DSPD officials reported they took Sheffield into custody at her school.
They stated he reportedly provided a full confession once he was informed of his Miranda rights.
Investigators discovered a weapon concealed within his backpack at the time of arrest; specifically, a loaded.45-caliber FNACP semiautomatic handgun with 13 rounds in its magazine and one chambered round, according to police.

Jail records indicate Sheffield is being charged with battery on a school employee or official, illegal possession of firearms on school property, and violating her concealed weapon and firearm license. Contact us for Temporary Security Guards Today!
