Willis Anthony Rellanos, 39 years old and from Fort Lauderdale, has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting incident that took place over the weekend. Police allege he is charged with second-degree murder with a firearm.
On Sunday morning in the 300 block of Southwest 1st Avenue, police from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department responded to reports of gunfire. Officers found an adult male suffering life-threatening wounds who was then transported to an area hospital, but his identity has yet to be released. Authorities reported that Rellanos remained at the scene after being shot and was immediately detained by officers.
According to his arrest report, Rellanos’ confrontation began after arriving at his former flame’s apartment building and engaging in an altercation with one of her friends. This quickly escalated, prompting Rellanos to bring out a firearm and open fire on him and the others nearby.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that captured nine gunshots being fired during this incident. No further details have been disclosed as to what prompted or led up to Rellanos and the victim’s argument; police continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
