According to the New York Times – A heavily armed attacker entered a Christian school in Nashville on Monday morning and fatally shot three 9-year-old children and three staff members before being shot and killed by the police, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said.
The shooter, who was 28 and lived in the Nashville area, was “at one point a student” at the school, although it was unclear when, John Drake, the Nashville police chief, said at a news conference.
The school, the Covenant School, was founded in 2001, and serves about 200 students from preschool through 6th grade, according to its website.
The police identified the six victims as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney, all 9; Cynthia Peak, 61, a substitute teacher; Mike Hill, 61, a custodian; and Katherine Koonce, 60. Dr. Koonce was the head of school, according to the school website.
