Broward County deputies fatally shot a woman armed with multiple large knives on Monday evening near South Federal Highway and Southeast 10th Street after authorities received reports about someone wielding these blades suspiciously nearby. This incident took place just after 7 pm local time, after authorities received multiple complaints that someone wielding knives suspiciously was present near these locations.
BSO spokesperson Miranda Grossman stated that investigators are working hard to ascertain exactly what occurred before the shooting. Grossman told reporters present at the scene during a briefing at which detectives are collecting more details as to exactly what transpired, such as whether she waved knives around or threatened anyone, for example.
Investigators are still at the scene, gathering evidence, reviewing video footage, speaking with witnesses, and exploring every angle possible to form an accurate depiction of what happened. Grossman mentioned that processing remains ongoing at this site, while commending law enforcement for all their hard work in reconstructing what happened.
As per Florida protocol for officer-involved shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has taken responsibility for investigating this incident to ensure transparency and accountability. No deputies were reported injured during this incident.
