Authorities have confirmed that a possible suspect is in custody after a horrifying shooting at a waterfront bar in Southport, North Carolina. The attacker opened fire from a boat toward a crowded outdoor bar area, killing three people and injuring several others before fleeing the scene.
The tragedy occurred late Saturday evening at the American Fish Company, a well-known bar located along the Cape Fear River. Witnesses reported that the suspect arrived in a small motorboat, stopped near the bar, and suddenly began shooting at patrons who were enjoying live music. The chaotic scene sent people running for cover as multiple shots echoed across the water.
Police and emergency responders arrived within minutes, but by then, the gunman had escaped by boat. Authorities quickly launched a massive search involving local police, state troopers, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Within an hour, officers located a man matching the suspect’s description on Oak Island, roughly five miles away. He was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect has been identified as Nigel Max Edge, a 45-year-old resident of Oak Island. Officials stated that preliminary evidence suggests the attack was targeted rather than random, though the motive remains under investigation. Edge is facing multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder and several counts of attempted murder.
The victims were identified as Joy Rogers, 64, of Southport; Solomon Banjo, 36, of Virginia; and Michael Durbin, 56, of Ohio. Several other individuals sustained injuries, with one person reported in critical condition.
Local authorities described the event as one of the most tragic incidents in Southport’s recent history. The coastal town, known for its peaceful community and scenic harbor views, was left in shock by the sudden violence.
