Phoenix Ikner, 20, opened fire outside Florida State University‘s student union Thursday at lunchtime, killing two men and injuring at least six more. Students and parents took refuge inside the nearby bowling alley and the freight elevator to escape. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for Ikner’s attack using a weapon belonging to his mother, who served 18 years as a sheriff’s deputy before keeping it for personal use after the department upgraded with new guns.
Officers quickly responded to the scene, shooting and wounding Ikner after he refused to comply with commands. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell confirmed that the shooting incident had been quickly contained, while Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower stated that both victims who died were not students, but no further details have been provided about their identities.

Investigators suspect Ikner, who is reported to be attending Florida State, used his mother’s former service handgun during the attack. Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil described Ikner’s mother as a dedicated and model employee who legally kept the weapon after upgrading firearms for her department. At present, authorities remain uncertain as to the motive for Ikner’s shooting spree. Contact us for an Armed Security Guard Today!
