Police in North Miami are currently conducting an investigation of a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of a man late Wednesday evening on Northwest 119th Street near 1st Avenue, according to authorities. The fatal hit and run happened shortly before 11:30 pm near Northwest 119th Street near 1st Avenue, they stated.

Investigators have not released the victim’s identity; however, they confirmed he is a 54-year-old homeless man living on the streets and are working to notify his family members as well as anyone involved in his life or in his death.

At the scene, NBC6 crews reported seeing personal items, including shoes and other debris, scattered along the roadway, along with what may have been part of what appears to be the victim’s body, underlining how serious and tragic this crash was.

Residents in the neighborhood declined to be interviewed on camera but expressed frustration and alarm over reckless drivers in their community. Multiple locals noted how dangerous driving behaviors were frequent on certain stretches of road in this stretch, prompting further discussions regarding traffic safety in this locale.

At present, no suspect has been identified and police are actively looking for those responsible who fled from the scene. Video footage may provide valuable clues as well.
