Tampa Suspect Killed After Chase and Confrontation with Police

Jeremiah Bailey, 48, was fatally shot by Tampa police following a violent incident and chase in Tampa on Sunday. Bailey had an extensive criminal past but had recently been released from Florida State Prison in 2022. On that same day, officers became aware of his criminal conduct when officers received reports about it from witnesses in Tampa.

At first, the incident started at a Dollar General store when Bailey blocked a vehicle belonging to a 47-year-old man in its parking lot. Following an argument between them, he moved his car so that the victim could drive off but pursued him back home, where he hit him with his vehicle, striking the victim and prompting his friend to fire a weapon at Bailey in an attempt to stop him before fleeing from the scene with police later engaged in chase pursuit.

A chase ended when officers, responding to Bailey’s threat, were forced to use deadly force against him and kill him in an encounter that resulted only in minor injuries to himself and another individual involved in the encounter. Investigators continue their probe of all circumstances surrounding Bailey’s actions as well as any previous criminal histories he might have had; and as this event garnered widespread media coverage due to its violent escalation and use of lethal force by officers, this event has garnered considerable media coverage and been the focus of much attention.
