School Shooting in Nashville Leaves One Dead, Suspect Dies

Antioch High School in Nashville saw two victims injured after an active shooter opened fire Wednesday in its cafeteria. One student, 17-year-old Solomon Henderson, immediately shot 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante dead. Another, 17-year-old Solomon Henderson, shot and wounded her.

Henderson also injured another student who was hit by a bullet grazed by Henderson’s handgun; that student received treatment for minor injuries before leaving the hospital for discharge. A third student sustained facial trauma from falling and was hospitalized as well for treatment.

Following his shooting of Henderson, he turned the gun on himself and shot himself fatally, which Metro Nashville Police later confirmed during a press conference.

Antioch High School was struck by another deadly school shooting nearly two years after another deadly school shooting occurred in Nashville. That incident set off a conversation about gun control across Tennessee; now, this incident at Antioch High School has reignited that debate and amplified it even further – reigniting concerns and dialogue on school safety and gun violence issues while authorities investigate further into its circumstances.
