Man to Stand Trial After Plea Deal Rejected in Shooting Case

Miami-Dade Judge rejected an attempted murder plea deal negotiated with Bridget Knighton prior to her May 21 shooting, which the accused was expected to plead guilty for and undergo trial for. Bridget provided testimony about events leading up to and the shooting itself on May 21, 2021 in Miami Gardens.

Knighton presented evidence showing Gayle Renard Blount had violated a restraining order by repeatedly coming to her apartment on the day of the shooting and made numerous visits despite being legally barred from doing so, contributing significantly to why Judge Stephen Callow rejected her plea agreement.

Blount’s shooting occurred after multiple violations of a restraining order and testimony provided by his victim played an instrumental role in convincing the court to send his case for trial. Now facing legal battle in court over shooting details and violation claims will likely become part of proceedings; marking an important development that moves away from plea negotiations towards full trials.
