Sunday at 6:30 p.m., outside a Tuscany 3 Village residence near Southwest 130th Avenue and 132nd Terrace, a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed one person as part of a domestic violence call that turned lethal.
According to Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, this incident began when a woman called 911 reporting domestic disputes involving her husband. As dispatchers could hear sounds of struggle in the background during this call, they managed to inform them that her husband was armed, prompting immediate police response and deputies being dispatched as quickly as possible.
“She called 911 but became involved in an altercation so couldn’t speak, yet our dispatcher could hear exactly what was taking place,” according to Cordero-Stutz. She did state there were weapons present. As soon as he arrived at the scene, when confronted by potential danger, the deputy opened fire on the suspect outside their residence and shot him multiple times to end any possible threat posed to those within it.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported him quickly, but unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries and died at an area hospital. At present, no details regarding which deputy was involved or whether body camera footage is available have been disclosed by law enforcement authorities. Officials continue their investigations of this incident, which has generated serious community outrage and raised many questions as officials strive to determine whether a deputy used appropriate force under these circumstances and perceived threats.
