Armed Man Killed in Shooting by Pasco Deputies

Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies were forced to use deadly force against an armed suspect on Sunday night in Bayonet Point. Deputies responded to a call on Princeton Drive where Phillips initially refused to surrender and barricaded himself inside before eventually exiting through the back door, carrying weapons which threatened the officers as well as their K9 unit, prompting officers to open fire in self-defense and end his life.

Pasco County Sheriff’s Office released bodycam footage that captured the moments leading up to a fatal shooting, showing children and one other adult present but unharmed during this incident.

Sheriff Chris Nocco provided details about the situation at a news conference, explaining that Phillips had expressed displeasure with returning to prison and threatened a shootout with law enforcement. This entire encounter happened in seconds according to Sheriff Nocco who added that their deputies acted out of fear for both themselves and K9, who was also at immediate risk.
